Dr.Marc McAllister Awarded 2019 Olney Early Career Research Award

Dr. Marc C. McAllister, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance and Economics at Texas State,has received the 2019 Robert J. Olney Early Career Research Award. The award, named after former Associate Dean of McCoy College Robert J. Olney, was first issued in 2015 and recognizes the early scholarly success of a faculty member in McCoy College. The award also requires the faculty member have been on a tenure-track position in McCoy College for a period of no less than two years, but no more than four, as well as having a promising research agenda. 

Dr. McAllister conducts research in the areas of employment law, privacy rights, consumer protection, and evidence. His scholarship focuses on the intersection of law, technology, and privacy. One of his recent articles,for example, examines the legality of tracking employee movements through GPS devices and smart phone apps. To date, Dr. McAllister has published 20 law review articles with over half of those articles appearing in top-100 law journals such as the Florida Law Review, Boston College Law Review,and Washington and Lee Law Review.  

Dr. McAllister earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University, graduating magna cum laude, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School, graduating cum laude. Early in his career,Dr. McAllister clerked for Judge Charles Wilson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He later clerked for Chief Judge Margaret Casey Rodgers and Judge Mark Walker of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Before joining Texas State in 2017, McAllister taught for ten years in various ABA-accredited law schools, covering subjects as diverse as Evidence, Mock Trial, Criminal Law, Administrative Law, Contracts Drafting, and Legal Research and Writing. He joined the Texas State University faculty in 2017, where he teaches undergraduate and MBA business law courses, including Legal Environment of Business, Employment Law, and Commercial Law.
